New York Knicks fans breathed a sigh of relief this past year when former Denver Nugget and NBA All Star Carmelo Anthony was traded as a last minute addition to the team. Anthony has made a name for himself as one of the most promising players in the NBA since his induction in 2003. Born in the Red Hook projects of Brooklyn, Carmelo moved to the rough streets of Baltimore at only 8 years old. It was there that sports became an integral part of his life, acting as a distraction from the violence and crime of downtown Baltimore. He found a successful high school basketball career at Oak Hill Academy where he was scouted to join the Orangemen at Syracuse University. One year into his college career, Carmelo was selected to be a part of the 2003 NBA Draft Pick and was picked up by the Denver Nuggets, going on to lead the team to two division titles and putting them back in the playoffs for every year he was on the team. Anthony also took part in two Olympic games as part of the US Mens Basketball team, receiving both a bronze and gold medal.

Thought to be one of the most charitable professional athletes in America, Anthony has founded and collaborated with a number of organizations that work with under-privileged youths, providing community centers and educational outreach in his old neighborhoods and his alma mater, Syracuse. Married to MTV star La La Vasquez, the two have a 4 year old son, Kiyan and currently live in Manhattan, where they have become fixtures of the fashion and social scene.
