A-ListerLorne Michaels

What started as a late-night, live sketch comedy show more than 35 years ago has spawned an empire. Today, Michaels produces seven hours of original programming every week for NBC, including “30 Rock,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and, of course, “SNL.” The producer has also been immortalized in the character of Jack Donaghy, hilariously played by Alec Baldwin on “30 Rock.” This Toronto-Canadian native set out for a career in entertainment, after graduating from University of Toronto and began a comedy duo with Canadian pal Hart Pomerantz. Moving to Los Angeles, Michaels was soon hired by NBC to create a late-night Saturday show and “SNL” was born. During Michael’s reign as producer and executive producer the show has been nominated for more than 80 Emmy Awards, winning 18. Michaels also founded production company Broadway Video which produced shows as Kids in the Hall and films based on SNL sketch acts and is also producer of NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Along the way, countless careers have been launched and presidential elections influenced. No one, friend or foe, running for high office is safe from the “SNL”’s razor sharp satire.
